I felt so-so about my G1, but am very happy with the Nexus One. The reasons to gow ith the iPhone: multi-touch, Apple UX, or specific apps on the Apple Market. The Android Market is definitely smaller and has a lot more hobby developers (or so it feels).
I agree with Allan. The GMail/Calendar integration is very nice on Android.
The Nexus One has about 2x the resolution of iPhone which makes reading lots of text easier. The iPhone's UX is no doubt superior, making daily use a happy affair. That said, its inability to 'star' and tag Gmail msgs plus lack of Google calendar sync is really regretful.
I carry a T-Mobile G1 Android phone and am on the latest/greatest firmware.

But if you're really tied to using GMail and other Google apps then the Android phones are super-convenient.
If there is no major cost difference for you, then I feel the iPhone wins hands down.
